How much experience do I need to go to your meditations?

Meditation experience is not a pre-requisite to attend our Services. You may apply  for the “SRF Lessons” (have a link for the SRF Lessons), which include the SRF  meditation techniques as taught by Paramahansa Yogananda.

Are the meditations guided?

Apart from brief instructions given at the beginning of the Service, the meditations are not guided.  Those interested Guided Meditations available on the SRF website.

Which Service should I attend first?

The Sunday Inspirational Service (10.15 am–11.15am) is a good introduction for  those not familiar with meditation or with SRF. The Reading Service includes  shorter periods of meditation that can help one prepare for longer periods  (approximately 45 minutes) in our Meditation Services. You may choose to bring a cushion/blanket for your comfort.

Once a month we offer morning tea and book sales, which follows the  Reading Service. This is an opportunity to meet and chat with other members of our  Group.

Is it okay to arrive after a Service has started?

We advise that you arrive 15 minutes before a Service, so that you may relax before the Service begins.

If however you do arrive after the Service has already started, please wait for the usher to guide you into the Meditation Room at an appropriate time (usually during  a chanting period).

What should I wear to the Service?

We encourage comfortable, modest attire, when attending the Services.

I have heard about Kriya Yoga and would like to learn more.  Where can I find information?

If you are new to SRF, you can learn more about Kriya Yoga in Chapter 26 of Autobiography of a Yogi, in which Paramahansa Yogananda describes the history & purpose of Kriya Yoga.  If you have further questions, please check the SRF website (https://yogananda.org/contact-us) or call Self-Realization Fellowship at (323) 225-2471, 9:00 am–5:00 pm (USA Pacific Time), and a monastic will be happy to discuss them with you.
